Resolume sends the frames to a Syphon program written in processing.org which sends the data through serial to Teensy board that controls 3 strips, one for each custom.

Resolume and many other VJ programs support sending frames to Syphon enabled programs.
The Processing program sends the frames to the serial output.
The serial is connected to Teensy device https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/ which sends the data to addressable leds of type WS2811 also known as NeoPixels Instead of using Teensy, you could also send the data from the processing program to a connected dmx device.
